It’s the summer of 1971 and the message on the Carma Theatre marquee reads: Laugh Riot of the Year, promoting the film “A New Leaf.”
The movie featured Walter Mathau and Elaine May in an unrated comedy romance.
Next door, walking south, is the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center and then Leiber’s Jeweler. North of the Carma is a business that causes us at the moment to draw a blank. Next to it is Niswander’s Newsstand.
That’s a very nice 1970 Pontiac on the foreground. And, that 1958 or ’59 Dodge on the other side of the street is a feature beaut.
We don't know the photographer who took this classic downtown Bluffton photograph.
