Can you tell the story of how Dillinger robbed your bank? That’s the question the Joe Bayliff U.S. 30 Harley-Davidson dealership in Upper Sandusky asked the Bluffton, Ohio, Historical Society, which spurred the creation of an upcoming event.

On Saturday, October 10, the historical society will present a reenactment of when John Dillinger entered Citizens National Bank on August 14, 1933 and took $2,100. This reenactment will take place at 11:55 a.m. in the intersection of Main and Cherry Streets. 

The historically accurate script is written by Fred Steiner, narrated by Kevin Gratz, and involves a dozen volunteers playing the parts of eyewitnesses to the daylight robbery.

The society invites the public to attend.

Motorcyclists from the Joe Bayliff U.S. 30 Harley-Davidson dealership in Upper Sandusky will also be attending, as part of their annual Wake the Dead ride. If the weather is fair, more than fifty Harleys could come riding into town between 10:30-11:30 a.m. for the reenactment.

In addition to the Harleys’ presence, the historical society has invited other local motorcycle groups to attend and show off their bikes on Main Street, which will be closed to traffic.

The society will be awarding the following prizes to motorcycles:

“Public Enemy Number 1”, the “Accomplice” and the “Outlaw.” Judging will be done by area youth.

If the weather proves inclement, the reenactment will move indoors to the Bluffton Middle School Cafetorium, 116 S. Jackson Street.
