Johannes and Elisabeth Steiner Habegger

Johannes (or John) Habegger, at age 22, came to the Bluffton-Pandora Settlement from Switzerland with his parents, Johannes Ulrich and Anna (Bischel) Habegger in 1833.

John was the third child born in his immediate family. The Habegger’s came from the Jura and Emmental area of the Canton of Berne.

The family lived in the Pandora area. While we had some information, we appreciate additional information to complete this column about this family.

Johannes married Elisabeth Steiner, daughter of Christian and Christine Pfister Steiner, around 1839.

Elisabeth’s parents came to America and later settled in the Berne community in Adams County, Indiana.

Many of these Habegger families left our area and that is the reason for our lack of family details.
